A good entry of 5796 prime lambs were forward with an overall average of 109.29ppkg. Superlight lambs sold to 92ppkg presented by RW Morgan, Caetwpa, Llanbrynmair (av 89.9ppkg) others to 88.88ppkg by EG Edwards, Bryncelyn, Dinas Mawddwy. Light lambs sold to 123.1ppkg presented by RB & JA Jones, Wernddu, Aberhafesp (av 98.19ppkg) others to 110ppkg by AP & JA Wilde, Cefn Blewog, Berriew and 107.2ppkg and 101.5ppkg by P Marsh, Glyn Farm, Brooks. Standard lambs to 120.5ppkg by WEG Evans, Llwynycrwth, Berriew (av 109.61ppkg) others to 119.4ppkg by RA & JA Jones, Wernddu, Aberhafesp, 118.7ppkg by MA Andrew & Sons, Ty Cerrig, Meifod and 118.4ppkg by R Reynolds, Rhydycwm, Beguildy. Medium lambs to 120.7ppkg by DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands Farm, Tywyn (av 110.84ppkg) others to 120.5ppkg by GR & M Edwards, Windmill Farm, Rowton, 119.5ppkg by DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands Farm and 117.4ppkg by JN Pugh, Garthbwt, Clatter. Heavy lambs to 109.6ppkg by E Jones, Cefn Coch, Cemmaes Road (av 104.04ppkg) others to 107.5ppkg(x4) by JL & JER Davies, Ffinnant, CD Gittins & Co., Lower Llivior, CL & FE Jerman, Glangwden and Mrs JM Price, Maeshyfryd. Overweight lambs sold to 98.09ppkg presened by Probert & Probert, Lower Hill, Sarn (av 93.46ppkg) others to 97.14ppkg by IB Humphreys, Upper Bryntalch, Abermule and 96.22ppkg by AP & AJ Wilde, Cefn Blewog, Berriew. Would all prime lamb vendors please note that all lambs to be belly shorn when presented.
Another good entry of 2000 Cull ewes and rams with a bunch of 7 ewes presented by RL Williams, Pantclyd, Llangurig selling for £51.20 per head. Others to £47.50 by P & G Jones, Bank Farm, Llansantffraid and £47 by DV Bebb, Gelli, Llanfair Caereinion. Ewes averaged £19.49. Cull rams sold to £50 presented by TE Humphreys, New House, Adfa with others to £41 by RL Williams, Pantclyd, Llangurig.
An improved entry of prime cattle were forward, with steers averaging 100ppkg and heifers 92ppkg. Two limousin cross medium weight steers sold to 109ppkg, one presented by JC Davies & Son, Gelli Gethin, Llanfair Caereinion and the other by GE & RM Morris, The Belan, Berriew, with John Langford purchasing both. Heavy weight steers sold to 104ppkg presented by Jones Bros., Ystradolwyn, Llangurig, with two charolais cross steers presented by EG & CE Owen, Fron, Talerddig selling for 102ppkg and 96ppkg. Messrs JE & JT Evans, Dyffryn, Llanidles sold two steers in the same category for 100ppkg and 96ppkg which were purchased by Corwen Butchers. (av 97.58ppkg) Medium weight heifers sold to 91ppkg presented by E & H Chapman, Morfodion, Oakley Park and 90ppkg, for a limousin cross presented by JC Davies & Son, Gelli Gethin which were both purchased by Corwen Butchers. (av 85.6ppkg) A good show of heavy weight heifers were forward peaking at 115ppkg for a limousin cross presented by GE & RM Morris, The Belan, Berriew. Messrs CJ Davies & Son, Waengwyn, Cefn Coch sold two for 113ppkg and 111ppkg, with all three top prices purchased by John Langford, Welshpool. Messrs GE & RM Morris also sold another limousin heifer for 111ppkg which was purchased by Corwen Butchers. Heavy heifers averaged 92.72ppkg.
A smaller entry of store lambs present although trade remained strong. Top price of the day was £43 for suffolk ewe lambs from RE Jones & Co., Lower Brimmon. Other noteable prices were £40 for suffolk mixed and clean lambs from Messrs Ben Evans & Co., Upper Cwmydalfa, Kerry and £39.80 for suffolk cross tup lambs from ED & M Stafford, Dingle House, Forden. Average £31.95 for 550 store lambs sold.
Another good weekly entry of 54 cows and calves met with a steady trade with a good clearance on those forward. Top price of the day was £1180 for a limousin 1st calver with a limousin bull calf at foot presented by JS & BM Vance & Son, Upper Grimmer, Minsterley. From the same home was a limousin cross 2nd calver with a bull calf at foot which made £810. Two limousin cross 1st calvers, one with a bull calf and one with a heifer presented by EG & DM Davies, Lower Bolbro sold for £840 and £860 respectively. A simmental cross 1st calver with a limousin cross bull calf at foot sold for £780 presented by WD & RE Edwards & Son, Priddbwll Uchaf. A special entry of 7 limousin cross in-calf heifers from RI Owen & Co., Cwmffynnon, approximately 6 months in-calf sold from £530 to £650 and averaged £591. Four belgian blue cross heifers in-calf to a limousin bull, Ronick Hawk due end of May 2005 presented by Messrs Beamond and Partners, The Cottage sold for £605, £600 (twice) and £590. Three limousin heifers and 1 aberdeen angus heifer, incalf to a South Devon Bull presented by JRS Hughes & Co., Lower Munlyn sold for £620, £510, £630 and £605 respectively. A breakdown of the prices was as follows:- £1000 plus = 1 lot, £900-£1000=1 lot, £800-£900=3 lots, £700-£800=10 lots, £600-£700=18 lots, £500-£600= 13 lots and less than £500 = 3 lots.
