Longtown Primestock Sale - Thursday March 03 2005 The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 96 prime cattle, 6 young bulls, 4,354 prime hoggs and 3,405 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale on Thursday 3rd March, 2005. More cattle were on offer and the bullock section saw more heavyweights with trade cheaper by 3 1/2p. Top price of 124.5p for a Limousin bullock from J.C. & D. Nicholson, The Gill and purchased by Rose County Foods Ltd., others to 120.5p (twice) from Faulding Cleugh and Hallburn, 117.5p Faulding Cleugh. Limousin heifers from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn sold to 121.5p to Rose County Foods Ltd., 118.5p Slealands to C.M. Kirkpatrick. Young bulls sold to 113.5p and 107.5p for Limousins from South Lambhill to C.M. Kirkpatrick. The 3,691 prime hoggs saw best export sorts very scarce, with trade as recent weeks, peaking at 126.8p per kilo for North Country Cheviots from Whitecroft Mains. Commercial types however were considerably cheaper, top of £55 for Suffolks from Sceughdyke.
