Others to £57 by GE Davies & Sons, Cwmbromley, Sarn and £55 by TD & MJ Orrells & Son, Middle Llegodig, Abermule. Rams sold to £58 by WR & AF Williams, Garthllwyd, Llanfair Caereinion. Ewes averaged £29.57 and rams £42.96. A small entry of ewes and lambs sold to £95 for welsh mule 2 and 3 year old ewes with twin lambs at foot from DR Lewis, Cefnbarhedyn, Machynlleth. A much small entry of 14 cade lambs sold to £13 and averaged £11.50.
Local butchers were keen to purchase the fine show of heifers that were on offer in the prime cattle section with a consignment of 4 limousin cross medium weight heifers presented by T & GA Owen & Son, Frochas Farm, Welshpool averaging 119.5ppkg. Mr Alan Davies of Berriew purchased three for 123ppkg and two for 121ppkg with Mr Brian Evans of Corwen Butchers purchasing for 113ppkg. Mr John Langford purchased a limousin cross heifer presented by JM & C Williams, Upper Pentre, Llangyniew for 111ppkg. Medium weight heifers averaged 117.73ppkg. Heavy weight heifers also peaked at 123ppkg presented by EE & MJ Jones & Son, Cwmbychan, Hope which was purchased by Mr B Evans, Corwen Butchers. Others to 115ppkg and 110ppkg for a charolais cross heifers, both presented by JT Francis & Co., Penygaer, Golfa and a limousin cross heifer by MA Jones & Son, Pentre Hall, Churchstoke selling for 113ppkg and all purchased by John Langford. Heavy heifers averaged 105ppkg. Medium steers sold to 86ppkg for a hereford cross presented by DM & RE Corfield, Gungrog Farm, Welshpool. Heavy steers sold to 105ppkg for a charolais cross steer presented by BH Evans & Son, Rowton Grange, Rowton, who also sold for 103ppkg. A limousin cross presented by CJ Davies & Son, Waengwyn, Cefn Coch sold for 100ppkg. Heavy steers averaged 93ppkg. More prime cattle required to meet the demand of the local butchers. Another better entry of calves with some strong continentals met with a good trade once again. Top price of the day was £188 fro a charolais cross bull calf from D & GJ Hamer, Brynhyfryd, Penstrowed. Limousin cross bull calves sold to a top of £180 presented by G James & Sons, Penybank, Berriew. Overall limousin bulls averaged £155. Simmental cross bull calves sold to £168 from TR Savage, Glanfeinion. Belgian blue cross bull calves from DJH Vaughan, Plas Newydd sold to £165. Freisian bulls sold to £10 from AL Charmley, Cegid. Overall freisian bulls averaged £8.
