SALE The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 84 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 5,222 prime hoggs, 455 spring lambs and 3,878 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale on Thursday 19th May, 2005. Prime cattle were a poorer show for quality and with more heavyweights forward averages were down by 3p on the week. Top price of 124.5p paid by Rose County Foods Ltd for a Limousin bullock from J.C. & D. Nicholson, The Gill, others to 122.5p Houghton House to Woodhead Bros., 120.5p Faulding Cleugh, 119.4p Houghton House and Faulding Cleugh, 118.5p Hallburn and Nether Onsett, 117.5p Dashwellgreen. Blonde d’Aquitaine bullocks to 120.5p The Gill to Rose County Foods; Belgian Blue 119.5p Hallburn to G. Moor. Limousin heifers from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn sold to 119.5p and 118.5p to Woodhead Bros., and Border Meats, 116.5p Dashwellgreen. Spring lambs met a fast selling trade, levelling at 150.3p or £63.51 per head. Top of £77 per head for Charollais’ from Megdale; Suffolk cross £69.50 Sceughdyke; Beltex £66 North Greenhill; North Country Cheviot £65 Boghall; Texel £64.80 Kileter; Blackface £47 Criffel View. Prime hoggs lacked the overall quality, but still met a grand trade, selling to a top of £79 per head for Texels from Mainholm, Ecclefechan, and to 136.6p per kilo for Cheviots from Sykehead, Hethersgill.
