NEW TECHNOLOGY DELIVERS 'HERD IN YOUR HAND' SOLUTION FOR PIG PRODUCERS
New Pocket PC software that enables farmers to manage daily task schedules and update herd data as they work has been launched by Agrosoft UK Ltd. The revolutionary new hand-held combines the advantages of an electronic diary and work scheduler with a real time herd recording and management system.

Based on the latest 'WinPig' herd recording system the PDA hand held is the result of a six year development programme. Introducing the Pocket PC software, Stephen Hall - Managing Director of Agrosoft UK - explained:

"Using the experiences of our customers we adapted some very new technology for pig producers to give them the ability to record and access data as they work. Our trials confirmed that when using the Pocket PC, stockmen were in a position to make and record actions much quicker than before. The hand-held format is also fully compatible with the Windows operating system and desk based systems."

Presenting the new system at a series of fertility workshops, James Nesling - Agrosoft Sales and Marketing Manager - highlighted the advantages of working with real time data and work schedules:

"The stockman's day revolves around making hundreds of key decisions that ultimately affect the productivity and profitability of the herd. Managing data for a large number of pig businesses in the UK gives us a big pool of production data and feedback. The development of the Pocket PC is based on this information and our working knowledge of unit routines," he explained.

"One of the reasons why we are so excited about this product is that it is a clear demonstration of technology developed around pig production rather than the reverse situation where the industry has had to mange data to fit with IT systems. Working with the latest Microsoft technology we have incorporated Win Pig within a highly powerful PDA" added Stephen Hall. Agrosoft are hosting a series of evening meetings titled 'Keys to Fertile Solutions' where the topics will cover all aspects of using accurate data to improve reproductive performance.

The next meeting is at The Cohannon Inn, Dungannon, Co Tyrone on 12th November at 8pm. The meetings are open to all pig producers and their staff.
