DILLON RESTATES IFA POSITION
ON DECOUPLING
IFA President John Dillon said today (Thursday) the IFA position on decoupling was decided by the organisation's National Council last September and there is absolutely no change to that position.
Mr. Dillon said the 100% land requirement for producers to draw down their full single farm payment is a major problem for many farmers and would have to be addressed by the Department of Agriculture in their negotiations on implementation with the EU Commission.
Mr. Dillon said the IFA National Council had decided in favour of full decoupling and this position of principle has not changed. However, the Council was also determined that the 100% land requirement problem must be addressed.
Mr. Dillon said while the IFA is not considering the Northern Ireland hybrid model, the fact that producers in Northern Ireland will be able to use 2005 as their reference area is an important issue, and IFA is seeking similar flexibility for farmers in the Republic.
